Use an eraser to remove dirt spots on an item of clothing or piece of furniture, without ruining the pile. Employ a suede brush to clean overall and restore the surface texture; stroke gently, always in the same direction (this is critical!). For larger jobs, go to a professional.

That old stand-by, vinegar, works well; apply with a soft cloth, rub and wipe off. Petroleum jelly will keep the leather supple, but it does require polishing.
